There's a known issue with the build used for the Open Beta event, causing users to experience inconsistencies with cross-play parties. This has already been fixed for release and the functionality should perform much better at launch.
The beta may be listed as "Deceive Inc. Public Testing" when searching for the game to install.
Launch Hang
- If your game appears to hang with the message: Authenticating user with Epic Online Services
- Please be sure to alt-tab out of the game if you hang during the launch/loading of the game, and look for a browser window or tab asking you to authenticate with your Epic Game Store account
- In some cases, users reported they have had to launch their default browser to get the authentication login screen to come up
Launch Crash or other failure to launch
- If you receive an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error
- Please add the following command into your Steam launch options for the game
- Right-click on the game in Steam
- Select Properties
- In the "Launch Option" box please add the following
- Closed the properties window and relaunch the game
- If you see an error that looks like this: DeceiveInc-Win64-Shipping.exe - Application Error
- Please make sure the game is allowed through any security software (such as an Anti Virus)
- To do this you will need to make sure the game binary is allowed through. It is named and can be found in the install directory like so: DeceiveInc\DeceiveInc\Binaries\Win64\DeceiveInc-Win64-Shipping.exe
- Special Note: Trend Micro has been reported as needing the above to happen or the game will not launch
- Players receive the message "Easy Anti-Cheat not installed"
- In Steam, right-click Deceive Inc - > Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game files...
- In EGS, left-click on the 3 dots that are below and to the right of the game in your Library, select manage, and choose Verify Files
- if it doesn't there is an EAC installer included within the build \Epic Games\ or SteamLibrary \CafeNoirAlpha\EasyAntiCheat
Resolution and Aspect Ratio Is Wrong And Can't Select menu options to change
- Hit the following keys together
- This should put the game into windowed mode and allow you to make the edits you would like to in the settings menu
Menu - Settings - Key Binds
- Double binding a key can lead to situations where the game will not respond to input correctly from that key.
Gameplay
- Mirror's reflection is WIP
- Practice/Training range: Shows Objectives at the top left
- Backend - The play button in the camera view after a game isn't working
- Visual effects are not visible when spectating the kill cam
- NPCs slide while doing social interactions
- Turning in the package while controlling the drone will lead to a mission failed screen.
- Matchmaking can lead to unbalanced teams when not in premades.
- Objective changes do not sync up if dead when it happens.
- Getting Eliminated in a slow status effect will lead to be stuck in walk on revive. Swapping gadgets should fix it.
- Sit actions may not always work correctly, resulting in "wonky" sitting postures or animation glitches.
- Walking backwards before dying will prevent the player from sprinting once they are revived.
Spies
- Mods are missing some animations and other visuals.
- Locked agents use base pose of the last selected agent for Intro Pose preview
- Xiu - Leaves a teammate overlay on previous npc after snap skill
- Xiu's base weapon does not have the intended handling. We've patched the damage on the server side to make sure she does not overperform in this build
- Squire Danger sense still visible after game end
- Some spies might T-pose during gameplay
- Invisible Larcin can get scolded/cover drained/prevented from getting cover.
- Invisible Larcin gets guards aggroed as if he was visible. He can get scolded/cover drained/prevented from getting cover
- Several characters' reload animations are visible while in cover.
Gadgets
- Bounce Pad causes NPCs to vibrate and move in place
- Some inks need adjusting on gadgets

Training Range
Holo-Mimic - Transforming into an object will not allow the player to scan anything else
UI
- Windowed resolutions don't have a title bar yet
- Field upgrades are overlapped in teammate HUD
- Reporting a player from the social menu leads to a crash.
- Crash report pops up when quitting the game normally.
- Sometimes players can see their friends in the game but have no invite button they can interact with. Also, for this alpha, players must invite through the main menu.
- Debug text on already-owned upgrades.
- Steam profiles are unable to send friend requests to Xbox Series S/X users. The friend request does not show up in the Social Menu for the Xbox user.
Audio
The Xbox voice chat from the OS will work (so Xbox player to Xbox player), but not in-game.
Tutorial
- After hacking the vault terminal, the hacking sound effect continually plays
Steam
Steam users may encounter an issue launching the game; please install the Epic games launcher as a temporary workaround
